SCORING METHODOLOGY

How subFactor measures subscription friction

subFactor is a five-point consumer-friction score. It does not rate taste, product quality or popularity.

1

Price clarity

Can a shopper identify the normal renewal price, shipping and common extra charges?

2

Commitment

Does the plan renew monthly, per shipment or for another prepaid term?

3

Renewal clock

How early does the order lock, and is the cutoff conspicuous?

4

Consumer controls

Can members skip, pause, change frequency and cancel online?

5

Exit friction

Are cancellation, refund and return rules clear and proportionate?

Reading the subFactor score

Lower scores indicate clearer recurring costs, visible renewal timing and stronger self-service controls. Higher scores flag commitment, cutoff, cancellation or total-cost friction that deserves closer review before subscribing.

Editorial firewall

subFactor scores are based on published evidence and documented consumer controls. Affiliate relationships, sponsorships and advertising cannot change rankings, lower scores, suppress warnings or purchase a “verified safe” label.
